6. Delays in Issuance of Advance Parole
Backlogs at the Bureau of Printing and Engraving have caused delays in issuance of routine requests for Advance Parole (AP). The Bureau of Printing and Engraving, in addition to printing U.S. currency and minting coins, also prints the security paper used for AP documents.
As a stopgap measure, additional paper was printed using the Legacy INS format. The additional paper was forwarded to the Service Centers in mid-January 2004. There is an indication that at least one of the Service Centers will treat the delayed cases as priority matters. Therefore, those persons with delayed AP cases may receive the requested AP shortly. The use of the outdated paper should not be cause for concern, as those advance paroles are considered valid through their respective expiration dates.
