AP question

Hi,
I have an approved 140 (NIW) and my 485 is pending for more than a year (Sep 05). I have been working on H1B (paper approval) and want to apply for EAD and AP as a safety net. I am not planning to use either in the near future. I have heard that if I dont use AP it wont be renewed..Is this true? if so I dont want to apply for AP now. Really appreicate your responses.
