AP or H1 Which one to use(RFE Case)

Hi,
I replied to RFE and expecting any time approval
but my wife has to leave out of country for two weeks.
If i get approved(assuming I do not get approval notice)
can she use H4 to reenter.

does the POE officer know that her H4 is expired couple of days back(she has H4 for two more years)

would worry only if

she does not have a valid AP, otherwise can use any. H4 is not invalidated until 551 stamp in the passport.

If no AP, what choice does she have?
