AP Limitations on place of travel?

I wanted to know if you can only travel to your home country on AP or anywhere. My brother lives in Australia and my parents will be visiting him there (from India). I want to join them but my I-485 is still pending (family based). Can i travel to australia even though my home country is India?

------------ you can go to any country for going out you dont need AP. AP is for entry to US

----------------YES, you will need visa for Australia and then AP to take a flight to US and then show AP at POE
