AP in emergency????

HI

My GC got approved 2 months before.My wife I 485 filled Feb 2003.So we are waiting for her GC.I know that is going to take long time.But she has an EAD not AP .We never apply for an AP.what happens If some emergency happens and she needs to go to India.

Shall I apply her AP while that happens and get her approval in 2 or 3 months meanwhile I would return in GC and send the AP to her to get the entry in US.Please suggest me if that is possible.

-----Apply AP immediately she needs valid AP to be approved to re-enter US
