AP/H1B status issues

Actually that extension word was confusing us.

It is understood that if your H1B is maintained even after entering using AP,
anybody is supposed to extend it if it is going to expire.

Extension is related to expiration of H1B not with your staying here OR travelling outside.

I travelled to India on AP and was on H-1b status (no visa stamp). After entering US, my lawyer refiled for H-1b and USCIS issued me a prompt H-1b approval for the remaining period. I also have an EAD.
 
How to use AP

This question looks funny but help me understand AP/H1B stuff.
For example....
- If I have a valid H1B (till 04/30/05) and AP(3 copies - valid till 08/30/05)
- I plan to travel on 10/30/04 and come back on 11/30/04.
- At the time of departure I hand over my I-94. nothing to do with AP.
(So till this time nobody knows what is being used ..H1B/EAD)
- While coming back in my home country I can show H1B OR AP ok.
- Only at the POE I have to decide what to show...

Is it the correct procedure?
Please tell me since I have never used AP.

Can anybody tell me the difference between
travelling on H1B (going and coming back) VS
travelling on AP

I am refering the procedure , so that we can analyze this AP/H1B issue.
