AP and Mumbai Airport

Could someone please share their experience dealing with Mumbai airport and Advance Parole.
I understand that a copy of the AP is given directly to the airline. From the check in counter you are required to go through a customs/emmigration booth. Do these guys do anything with the AP...or do they only check your passport etc? It is this check point that I haven't read any posting about.
On the one hand it seems from the postings on this forum that Indian airport officials are familiar with the process....but on the other hand I am rather apprehensive!

It is this check point that I haven't read any posting about.
