I follow the rules and the law because I am a person of principles, doesn't matter if other break it. So I won't get in any argue with you, but the next time try to choose better words when you are referring in a "general" manner.

Good luck

cherr1980,

I think Suzy was just joking - don't make it serious ;)

Guys, I have great news.... I posted about my frustration with the DMV in OH. And today my husband was like, hey my license expired I have to go renew it. Then we thought I should give it a shot, after like 3 visits to the DMV.
I went there and they let me renew my license with my NOA's from the USCIS!!!!!!!!! I didn't even bring my passport with me. I showed them my out-of-state (but valid) DL, proof that I took and passed the written exam, my SS card and marriage certificate. They made copies of all the NOA's and Monday I will start looking into my OH car insurance. Woo-hoo!!! Bottom-line is it changes from state to state, from office to office and and also depends on which officer from the DMV you end up with. At the same office they said I should only come back after the EAD that I am still waiting for!

Those are good news! I was thinking of going there to just give it a try. My husband has to go change his license from MA to CT too. I'm gonna wait a little while to see if I get my EAD soon, if not, I'll start to try in different offices. Hopefully I'll be lucky like you.

Just an update

Since I received my EAD yesterday I decided to go change my MA drivers license to CT. It was a waste of 4 hours of my day. The officer was SO rude and said that 'pending status' is not a legal status and that if I want to use my F1 as a status I need a letter from my school and my I-20. I told him that I did have my I-20 with me and then he said that maybe I don't wanna get the letter from my school, he was implying that I was lying and then said that maybe I just came as an F1 but never attended school. SO mad. And I told him that according to the CIS, pending status IS a legal status and he went ahead and told me that "he was going to inform me the law" and that he did that for a living. I just can't believe how rude some people can be.

I guess that what worries me is that now my husband has his license in CT and I cannot change mine to MA before the interview. It's like a circle, I cannot change my license without the GC and I need the drivers license to proof I live in CT with my husband for the interview.

My husband and I are going to try to go to a different DMV. I hope it's not a waste of time again.

Oh and how could I forget...when I said that I had my EAD so I should be able to change my DL he said that anyone can get that card, that convicted felons go into the INS offices and come out with an EAD no problem. Can you guys believe that?!?!?! After all we all have been through to get the EAD!!

OK I just had to vent a little.

I didn't have an easy time getting my driving license but it seems it was easy compared to some people's stories here.

I actually got my license with an expired EAD from my previous marriage, I took in every piece of info from the USCIS I had. They said they'd send copies of what I had to a central immigration processing center to verify my documents. Three months after I passed my driving test, I got my license in the mail saying my immigration status had been checked and everything was fine.

The people at the DMV kept saying sorry for making me go through loads of stuff to get my license. I guess it really does depend from state to state.
