AOS stamp + Drivers License

Does anyone have the same experience. I got my passport stamped on Feb 22nd in hartford( marriage based AOS). So i thought it would be ok go to the Connecticut DMV to apply for a drivers licence. Well, they did an immigration check and according to immigration I am still an illegal alien

What gives. Any suggestion on how to solve this.

Plus, what's up with the case status check on the USCIS website. According to that website my EAD application is still pending, while the officer already took my EAD and gave me a stamp on the passport.

AM i check my status in the wrong place.

You did not received your GC ?
You know how slow their system can be and maybe your status will be "cleared" soon. Don't worry ! You will just have to wait a little bit more for your DL.

Ema.

P.S.: I don't remember bringing my passport for my DL, but that's Illinois... every state is different.

Uhmm that is my worry, I want to travel, but I don't know where I can check out if they changed already my status.
So you already got an EAD, that it was taken because you already had a stamp in your passport and in the database you have no status? PLOP!

I received my EAD in the mail about a month ago but my status still says that "we have received you application....". I called the USCIS and their database shows that the EAD is still pending. Heck I care...I have proof of employment and that is all that matters to me at this point. They can adjust their databases later.

haha... thats the attitude. Booo to USCIS. :p

Hey guys but Sam still have the problem to get his DL...
For travel and for work who cares (well that depends on your SSA office)...okay, but for DL...I think is like the SSA if they don't update their database you must wait.
I would go to another DMV office, those DMV they even don't really follow the instructions correctly. Every office is totally different!

You see the problem in Connecticut is that every time you go to a different office, I have to pay a $40 filling fee just to file an application for drivers license. I guess I am better of waiting.

What kind of state is that ??? That's outrageous !!

Ema.

WHAT? That is not a car dealer! I think your spouse should contact the congresswo/man to check that out. I never heard or read something like that.

Okay I just went to the DMV Connecticut site and that 40 bucks is the License Exam Fee? is that 40 bucks? you don't have to take it everytime, is just one time and that is when your documents are good to go.

When you go to the DMV the first thing that they do is to check out your identifications and documents if that is okay then you continue the process, but if that doesn't satisfy their knowledge then you don't continue and you don't have to continue doing the other stuff because you simple cannot.

Good luck,

Now I am worried too. I'm an F1 going to school in MA but I'm moving to CT right after graduation. Therefore, I need a CT drivers license BUT here's what I found:

If you are not a citizen of the United States you will be required to show proof of your legal status in this country.

o Holders of a B1 or B2 Visitor's Visa are not eligible for a driver's license or identification card unless a valid USCIS Employment Authorization Card and verification of an application pending for Lawful Permanent Residence is provided.
o Foreign students with an F1 Visa status must show USCIS document I-20 and verification of current enrollment in a Connecticut school.
o J1 Visa holders are required to show USCIS document DS2019.
o H1B Visa holders are required to show a valid USCIS Employment Authorization Card and an employee verification letter from a Connecticut employer.
o All applicants will be verified through USCIS for legal status before a driver's license/identification card will be issued.

So I guess this means that I cannot get a drivers license even though I can show my F1-Visa, I-20 and proof that I'm going to school....BUT my school is in MA. This is so stupid. For H1-B it says that they need to show their employment authoritzation, does this mean that I can show my EAD (whenever I get it) to get my license? Even though I am not an H1? And for B1 it says that you can just show proof of your application being in progress...I'm guessing that applies for everyone. Did I just answer my own questions correctly ?

Thanks!!! :D

The good thing about CT is that they state everything on the website. I was an F-1 in NJ then I moved to OH when I got married. The DMV said to me that they will only give me a DL after I have the EAD, my pending I485 status is not good enough. But that was only after they made me take a written test! It's insane, if you have a license from another state you need to take the written exam here. After passing the exam I still have my NJ license.
So I am here waiting for my EAD to come because my insurance expires on March 31. Insurance companies won't let me insure my car in OH with a NJ license. My husband can't insure my car bc his name is not on the title and if I transfer the car to him we have to pay sales tax, does that suck or what? Damn DMVs

You can gift your car to your husband and just pay $10 processing fees. Atleast thats how it is in CA and TX. I am not sure about your state.

Yeah so I guess no driver license for us till we get the EAD. This is just a pain. Now I'm gonna have to buy a car, register in MA only so I can change it to CT in a month. Hopefully I'll just get this EAD soon. I didn't even consider this being an issue.

To make you feel better I can tell you that in California they fight for the "right" of the mexican illegals, who jump over the border by thousands every night, to get a driver license ;)

Only "idiots" like us, who obey the law and do everything legally have to stay on line and wait and wait....

I'm a citizen now, I don't have to deal with this $..t anymore, but I'll never forget my last 15+ years of my life and the continuous struggle with those imbecils from INS.

I follow the rules and the law because I am a person of principles, doesn't matter if other break it. So I won't get in any argue with you, but the next time try to choose better words when you are referring in a "general" manner.

Good luck

Sorry, you got it wrong.
Assuming you reffered to the word "idiots":
-First, as you can see, I've included myself in that category.
-Second I've used quotations (".") marks, which, under the general acceptance, preclude the actual meaning of the term. (actually those "smart" guys who don't respect the rules, consider us like that)
You don't need to get offended, it was just a sarcastic comment toward illegal immigrants.
