I have a friend who applied for AOS through marriage this month and they returned her AOS papers with two NOA's one of them stating that she used an outdated form for the i-130. But the form she used is the one on the website which says that expires January 31st 2012. She's on a F1 in the US and has not found a job and is not currently in school since she graduated from her masters. Her F1 expires Jan 30th. Anyone knows what's going on with the i-130?? could be a mistake on behalf of USCIS? or do they want her to wait until they update the i-130 so she can send it again?? please help!!!

They should start over with fresh forms downloaded off the website http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-130.pdf

Something may be getting overlooked somewhere and they (your friends) cannot pinpoint it. One page among one of the forms may be missing or from an older version. Before you start arguing about, STOP! Just tell them to start from scratch and they can have it back in the mail in no time. It will take longer to whine about doing it than it will to just get it over with.

thanks BigJoe could it be that they filled it all out in December and the dates they wrote on it some were from early december and others from January and they sent it now in January?

As the other posted noted, it could been any number of things of why the application was rejected by the lockbox. The best thing now is to resubmit the application with the latest forms off of the USCIS website.

If they want more details directly from the lockbox about the rejection they can follow the following steps:
If your form is rejected and you don't understand our explanation or disagree with that determination, please write to Lockboxsupport@dhs.gov before you re-file. We will respond quickly to your concern. Please include the form type, receipt number(s), and the applicant name and mailing address in your inquiries. We specifically ask that Alien Numbers (A-numbers) NOT be included in email, as email is not a secure means of communication.
