My USC wife and I sent the I-130/I-485/I-864/I-765 to the Arlington, VA office on Nov. 24, 2003. To date, there has been no response from them whatsoever. Should we be worried? How long does it usually take before one receives the initial receipt? Thanks!

should be quicker, check you bank account. see weather deposited your checks...

Good Luck

Folks, does anyone else have an opinion on this? I, of course, wholeheartedly agree with zking that it should be quicker. Will calling the National Customer Service Center do any good?

Normally, They send you the reciept in 1 week. Did you do regular mail?or certified mail? I mean do you have any proof that shows they recieved your papers???

Yep, we sent it registered mail with returned receipt, so I have that (postmarked Nov. 26). Of course, it doesn't say on the returned receipt WHAT was enclosed in the package; only states that they received it.

I am in same situation

I mailed the 130/485 concurrently for my parents to Arlington Office, VA on 19th of Sept.
I got nothing except US Mail return receipt.
Of course, They cashed out my application fee about same time I got the US Mail return receipt.
I wonder if that's it or should I receive anything from INS, not US Mail receipt?

Nightlifer, you mailed 2 month later than me. If you or anyone has experience, please inform me. Many thanks to this forum.

Sachinphadke, I am pretty sure the Arlington Office DOES mail receipts, judging by some discussions in this very board. Unless, of course, they do it randomly or selectively.

At this point, I am starting to wonder if they may have lost my application package (although my situation is not nearly as bad as that of a previous poster, don718us).

What is one to do? My calling the National Customer Service Center did not yield any results; they are as clueless as they can be, and have no helpful suggestions.

Customer service has never been of any help whatsoever.. I would suggest that you go visit the arlington office or ask your congressman to look into it.

Sachin,

Can you suggest what I should do?
The current processing date at VA(Arlington) is Sept 2002 and my receipt date was Aug 2002.
I haven't heard anything so far.

Nightlifer, I am planning on going to the Arlington office to enquire? ANy suggestions so that trip is not a waste.

TIA.

You can go and enquire in person or you can ask your congressman to look into it. It's really your choice.

I would ask the congressman to do it.

Sachinphadke - any particular reason you prefer not to go in person? I am seriously considering doing it (prepared for the long wait) - is there another reason, except the time spent, for preferring an alternative?

I have read somewhere else in the posts that sometimes it is the administrative work that is pending or overlooked and that they just forget to mail stuff.
SO a trip may be worthwhile.

There is no reason for not going in person (other than the wait and the day wasted).

I think the congressman can do the same for you without leaving the house.

Nightlifer,

I heard that you need to be at the Arlington office really early.
They allow the first 150 people only.

I also sent mines to the arlington office around nov 25. It was returned because i sent checks and i made them payable to Us citizenship services. They told me to resend the checks and make it payable to citizenship and immigration services. I resent them the next day. I am yet to receive a receipt from them, but the checks cleared the following week. I also called the nsvc and the lady i spoke to said that arlington doesn't issue receipt

Update: I decided against going to Arlington in person. Simply can't afford to take a day to do that. So I got in touch with Senator George Allen's office instead. A very nice and competent-sounding lady by the name of Emily instructed me to send a written information request to her, and promised to take it up with the Arlington Office. She also told me there was a way to check with USPS on whether Postal Money Orders have been cashed. I did just that, and found out that all of mine were cashed on Dec. 9, 2003 (my application to Arlington went out on Nov. 25).

Emily also told me that, if you send a "one-stop AOS package" (that is, concurrently file the I-130, I-485, I-765, etc.), the Arlington office indeed may NOT send you a receipt.

Finally, she confirmed the rumor that the Arlington office will soon be moving to a new location in Merrifield, VA (only a few miles from their current location). The new office building is going to be "much nicer" than the current one. However, the move will not be happening until this spring, perhaps around March or April.
