Interview experience

Hello BHOONBHU/DAMNIT/RKOLMI/ & everybody else who is going for interview.

I have been punctiliously following all your comments and worries in this FORUM. Just today, I registered my name and here I am giving my personal experience with officer Beverly Dupuis.

I had an interview with her on 3/3/05.

She is one wonderful soul. I am pretty sure you all will like her.

Let me answer all your questions (whatever I remember, browsing this FORUM for three months). of course these answers are based on my own experience and judgement.

BHOONBHU, you can take your baby because we did. She always wants to see the baby and make sure to take original and a copy of your baby's BIRTH CERTFICATE. If you do not plan to take your baby then, make sure to take yours baby's picture. Later, She keeps the copy of the birth certificate.

Damnit, please do not get nervous because she makes you feel at home. Whether your I140 is cleared or not if you are called for interview that means you are all set to get your GREEN CARD. Just set your mind, in the positive tone
Secondly (this is for everyone) Damnit, remeber "APPAREL MAKETH A MAN". Please go with SUIT(wear TIE, too). Suit gives you confidence and you look presentable. I have seen only one or two people dressed candidly and immaculately. This is my view. Now, it's upto you take my brotherly advice or just drain it into the gutter.

Make sure you have your latest EMPLOYMENT letter, clearly saying your date of joining, salary and working hours/week. Please take your latest PAYSTUBS, also.

Now, if your case is transferred you will get an interview letter. I am pretty sure you all must have your interview scheduled.

Coming back to my EXPERIENCE.

We were ushered by officer Dupuis in her CABIN. When we entered, first thing she said to us was " I DON'T THINK I WILL HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH SUCH A WONDERFUL FAMILY". We then took the OATH for telling nothing but the truth.
She then asked our (first mine and then my wife's) parents name. She crossed checked the same with entries in our I-485 form. Then, she asked our son's name and the original birth certificate. She kept the copy of birth certificate.
Finally, she kept my PAYSTUBS and the latest EMPLOYMENT letter.

That was all to it. She STAMPED our passport.

Our interview lasted only 15 minutes. This interview can go to any length, depending on officer Dupuis initial assessment of your persona. Please keep this in mind that she is no CHARLATAN. Trust me when I say this. She is well qualified and very smart for this job. Please tell the TRUTH to her. She has all the records.

I am sure you all must have consulted your lawyers but please take all the documents ( whatever you have) and their copies. I had taken everything.

Now, I end my lengthy harangue with a NOTE of GOOD WISHES to everyone who is going for the interview . Hope this will help you all.

Yours brother.

thank you for your detailed post....appreciate it a lot.

Hey Mono, Thanks for detail posting

Hi Mono,
Thanks very much post posting details about your experience.
Can you please advise on..
1) How many paystubs did she ask for. I have recently (one maonth back) joined my sponsor company and I have only last 2 paystubds only. Would that be alright.
2) My employer letter mention "full time" not not 40hrs/week. What do you think, it should have mentioned 40 hrs a week.
3) What kind of employment releated question did he ask?

Please advise.
Thanks

for Damnit

4 paystubs may be enough. I had taken 8 paystubs. She does not ask for specific number, per say. Just to be on safer side I say you should take more.

Secondly, I think what the officer is looking for is the current date printed on the letter. but please do not leave any room for any doubt. My employment letter read full time (40 hrs/week).

Thirdly, she did not ask any question about my employment, may be because I have been working for the same employer who brought me here.
If you have changed the employer she may ask some question as to why did you leave your former company. These are all my guess. Nobody(even the lawyers) can say what kind of questions you would be asked. So, my best advice is to TAKE ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and prepared for all sorts of questions.

GOOD LUCK.

hello all....our interview was on march 10th, and it went very well, our passports got stamped....but let me start from the beginning..

we got to the office about 25-30 minutes early..they called us in about 1 hr and 15 minutes late.

officer was very very nice. she asked us to take oath, then proceeded to take our fingerprints and signatures. said sorry for delay, normally one interview takes about 1 to 1.5 hours but you guys should be out in 10-15 minutes.

all the while she kept talking about our baby. also asked for baby's birth certificate (copy).

then she asked for EVL (original and copy)

then paystubs, I asked her how far back she wanted me to go, she said just give me the latest one and a few W-2's ( I was getting a little nervous taking out the documents, but she asked me to relax saying everything is fine).

asked the usual questions....illegal entry, etc to both of us

didn't ask about birth certs/marriage cert/bank statements.

asked about my medical clearance (I had positive PPD), but chest x ray was clear. then asked for letter saying I had completed prophylaxis for positive PPD, which I had taken luckily.

then she proceeded to check if visa numbers were available and then stamped our passports.

overall it was a very positive experience, we were in the interview for about 15 minutes.

my advice to everyone: take all the documents you think they might need. better to be cautious and safe.

thank you to everyone for their tips and advice. :D
