AOS interview in LA ended in further review

My wife and I went for the AOS interview this morning. The interview lasted less than five minutes. The officer, who was very nice and friendly, swore us in and asked to see our id. He then asked me when I last entered the country and took my I-94 card with the parole stamp on it. After I re-entered last week the USCIS had sent me a H1-B extension notice with a new I-94 card on it, so I gave him that as well.

He then asked if we had children, or had been married before. Then he ran through three questions from the I-485 (arrested? deported? claimed welfare?), and asked me if there was any change in the answer to any of the other questions.

He then asked for evidence of joint assets of liability and we gave him copies of our last bank statement, car insurance and car registration document. He seemed happy with this and didn't ask to see anything else.

Then he stood up, and said, OK that's great, I just need to complete the paperwork and you should be hearing from us in a couple of days. He handed me a form saying that says "An adjudicative review of your case is needed. No additional information is needed from you at this time." It has the officers name on it and says to make an infopass appointment if I haven't heard anything in 30 days. He didn't take (or ask to see) my EAD or AP notice.

I asked if the FBI name check had come back and he said everything is good, he just needs to complete some paperwork.

He showed us out and that was it. Our appointment time was 7.50am (we got there at 7.20) and we were in the parking lot at 7.55am.

Back to checking the USCIS web site daily...

Heard your story before.
That officer probably doesn't have the authority to approve cases.
He's probably gonna ask a supervisor later and by the end of the day you might get your case approved.

That is very common, there are different levels...and probably the person who attend you was not an adjudicator officer or I don't know. They have been changing the procedures and apparently another person in a higher level must approved what they are handling. That has been for awhile already.

The officer who interviewed us looked fairly senior (certainly his office didn't seem like that of a junior officer.) He basically said that as we his first appointment of the day, he hadn't had chance to fully review our file yet and that he'd complete it later in the day.

Ok now we are nervous our interview is tomorrow morning 9:30 am

I hope we can walk out of there knowing more.

Did the IO ask the USC about prior arrests ect. or were the questions directed to Immigrant Spouse?

Good luck.

I'm not too worried. I still have my EAD and my AP. I'm not planning on travelling for a while, or changing employers, so my plan is to ignore it until 30 days are up. The officer was pretty reassuring that everything will be fine.

We were both asked about prior marriages and children, but only I (the intending immigrant) was asked about arrests, welfare, etc.

Seems like ignoring it was the correct thing to do. I got no less that five emails from USCIS today saying that a welcome notice was mailed yesterday (September 26).

Thanks for everyone's help on this forum. Good luck to those pending interview!
