AOS Interview Confusion

I 'm one of the DV lottery 2009. Everything was good. All the procedures went great. I submitted the AOS to chicago, did the biometrics and got an interview letter. Here, i got really confused. When i submit my package (AOS) to chicago, my visa number was available and they did cache my check . This was in August 2008. Today, when i went to USCIS interview, she told me that i have all the paper, but my visa number is not available yet. So, i'm wondering what is going on. Is my visa number is issued when AOS package was submmitted or in the day of interview.
Please help me understand this phenomena and what should i do in case i did fill too early ( even though only 8 months left before DV expires).
Thanks

Sorry to hear that...

When was your number current?Oct,Nov,Dec or Jan according to the visa bulletin?May be you filed early and they did not reject your case in Chicago. We don't have more details from you, like your case number so not sure what went wrong.

Do you mind telling us what your case number is..you don't have to show the whole number but the few digits at the beginning like AF13XXX,that will be around 13,000 and that will be from Africa.

Thanks for the reply:
My number was current Last August. MY case number is AF47***
I don't know if my number was valid last year, but not this year or did it pass.
(No idea)
Thanks

How did you know that your number was current last August?

DV 2009 - Your number will probably be current around June - August, 2009. You should probably look at the 2009 bulletins for next few months, then file when your number comes current. :)

VonBlanc,

2 questions for you:
1. What country are you charged to?
2. What year is in front of your rank number... That is 2009AF00043xxx or 2008AF00043xxx

Below is the rank number cut-off for the month of March.

C. ADVANCE NOTIFICATION OF THE DIVERSITY (DV) IMMIGRANT CATEGORY RANK CUT-OFFS WHICH WILL APPLY IN MARCH

For March, immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2009 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers BELOW the specified allocation cut-off number:

Region All DV Chargeability Areas Except Those Listed Separately
AFRICA 26,800 Except:
Egypt 16,000
Ethiopia 13,800
Nigeria 9,900

If indeed your rank number fall within the Africa region and is within the 4300 range then you have a few months to go before your number become current. If you are from either Egypt, Ethiopia or Nigeria then you may still have a a bit more of a wait. You may have prematurely submitted your application for AOS.

Additionally if you are from Egypt, Ethiopia or Nigeria you may wish to consider doing CP.

2. If the prefix in front of your RANK NUMBER is 2008, then I am sorry to say that you are unforunately out of luck since the DV 2008 Lottery ended on September 30th, 2008.

Thank you medpharm for your response. I have 2009AF00043xxx , so i guess i have to wait fews months . I was just wondering if when my number become current, should i go to the same USCIS Office for another interview or should i resubmit my I485 to Chicago office ( DV Lottery office)
Thanks again.

Friends of mine applied too early (in October, but their number won't be current until around June this year).

They went for their interview 2 weeks ago and were told they could not be issued a visa on that day. They were told to schedule an Infopass in May, to arrange a new Interview date, which avoid them having to resubmit the I485 and payment etc again. It also means they remain in status in the mean time even if their exising L1 status they had expires.

I'm not sure if that is the norm, so don't just assume from this that you can do the same. I would recommend you take an Infopass to ask them in person about your specific case.

Thank you orlandovillas for the information. I'm going to schedule an info-pass to talk about my case and hopefully everything will be okey. :)

Hi....
As first you are amazing, and gave us a lot of information how to do this right. Thanks a lot.
I have one question, I couldn't find nothing about that.
I am doing AOS.
When I came in USA in the airplane they gave me I-94 on German....so, do I need translate that on English or I just can sent it to USCIS on German?
Thanks
