Hi,
I'm applying for GC for my mother who's in USA. She does not have her birth certificate. I read some folks here have applied to the Consulate of India and received the BC and Non-Availbility Certificate. In the application form for this, it says to send in a letter detailing why you need the information. What did you give as the reason? I will be mailing the form to NY. (I will be getting affidavits too.)
Another question: How long will it take to get these two certificates? Should I apply for police clearance certificate along with these two? If so, will the passport be with them until the clearance is received which could be 6-8 weeks? The reason I'm concerned is she wants to go to my sister's place in March and she'll need the passport as ID for air-travel. Also, for her medical exam she'll need the passport too. Do they always ask for police clearance or is it only sometimes, hence I should wait to get that only if needed?
Thanks so much for the wealth of information everyone is providing on this forum.
