I have been very impressed with CIS efficiency.
I got my case approved in Chicago today.
This is our time line:
Filed on March 09 2005
EAD and Travel document approved 2 months later
Feb 15 06 AOS approved(No stamp, cus passport was expired)
The officer said I should get Green Card in a couple of weeks
Our appointment was at 9:50 and we got there at 9:30.
We waited on the second floor for a about an hour. (Room was packed and was hot)
My name was called and they told us to go up the 23rd floor.
We swore in and the officer started to verify info from I-485 form (address, birthday ETC)
The officer was pleasent and funny. He looked at driver licenses He asked for my passport, birth certificate and asked about my immigration history. (Last time I entered, what status was I in when I got married ETC). He looked at letters of employment, paystubs, taxes, bills, bank statements and upcomming wedding reciepts. When he was looking at our bank statement he noticed a pretty large payment I had recently made to my credit card bank. He asked if any of us has another checking account and why have we made such a large tranfer to another bank. We had just bought a big screen TV and our credit card bill was pretty large last month. I explained this to him. Then he took a piece of paper and tore it in half and gave half to me and half to my wife then he said without looking or talking to each other to write down the color of our sofa. He looked at the papers and thru them away along with the I94.After that I offered to show the album and he looked at it without asking any questions about half way. Then he took a big stamp and stamp my application "Approved" He said he couldn't stamp my passport becuase it was exprired, but I should get my conditional green card in the mail in the couple of weeks. Then he explained the whole condition removable proccess and he said that the reason they do this is because they want to make sure we are not married just for the green card. My wife and I laughed and held hands for a second. The officer smiled and said that there is no reason to act all lovy-duvy. The whole proccess was about 20 minutes I thanked him for his time and proffesional interview and he joking said "Proffesional!!! I must have done something wrong"
My wife and I stressed a lot over the interview but as long as you have a bonafied marriage and the neccessary proof, insurance, bills, reciepts ETC there is no reason to worry.
Good luck to everyone
