1. How long is there usually between the adjustment of status interview and when you actually get the green card?

2. How long do you have to wait after you get a green card until you can apply for citizenship? Does it matter if you\'ve already been in the country for a while?

Hi,
#1 - it varies a lot, but it is around 6 months, more or less. Extreme cases have taken over a year so the poor guys had to get a second 1 year stamp in their passport.
#2 - If your case is employment vased, you can apply 90 days before you hit the 5 years mark after the approval of your green card ( not the time when you actually get the plastic card but from the day when you got approved ). If it is by marriage then it is shorter.

I suggests you visit http://www.shusterman.com where is it all explained in great details.

I have worked one day in the middle of July without knowing that
my work permit has expired in the middle of June, 2001. What
should I do? My green card interview date is July 20, 2001. Will
the INS ever find out about this? Thank you.
