Hi everyone,

This is my first time to the forum. I got married to a USC on the 8th of June 2007. My lawyer sent my I-130,I-485 ,I-864 and the medical requirements:confused: some time in July month ( I think the second week to be more precise around 10th). For some reason she did not file the I-765 form which she could have done concurrently. She claimed that she will do it separately after receiving the receipt for other papers. Is their any advantage in doing this form separate and more important, will I have to pay for this with the new fee?

Secondly, I saw from this forum everyone received their receips within a short time, should I be concern since I have not received anything in the mail yet?

If you filed in July and paid the old fees for Forms I-130 and I-485 and did not file For I-765, you will have to pay the new filing fee for Form I-765 which is $340.

Your attorney should have filed all forms together, then you would have been able to pay the old fee for Form I-765.

Your Attorney should have been aware of this.

now you don't need the attorney to file I-765, you can do it yourself (but you need your notices of receipt). I bet the attorney did it on purpose to charge you more money. I am not sure, but I think all of your receipts will now go to your lawyer.

As far as I know, if you apply to Chicago Lockbox, you can apply for all concurrently. However, the rule is probably different if you apply somewhere else. They might require you to apply for 765 after u receive the receipts for the others.

What is your DO and where did your lawyer file them??

Cheers

Which address for Chicago Lockbox

For those who used USPS express mail to send forms to the Chicago Lockbox, did you use the post box address or the laselle address? Many thanks in advance.!

To be honest, I did not asked her and presently she is out-of state and was unable to reach today. However, I reside in the New york city.

this "important stuff" can be easily handled by a regular person with knowledge of English, common sense and ability to follow instructions. Many of us dealt with this stuff ourselves, and did a better job than your lawyer.

you apparently took this in the wrong context. I never inferred that I could not have done this for myself. The point that I was making is that she already has the case and I dont want to have any conflict because these are important stuff that she is dealing with. Do you think it makes sense to have issues with this person at this particular time ? She could be vindictive and do sthg stupid. ( Get it? )

To besides, you dont know what was my reason for using a lawyer.

I luckily paid 600 dollars and she made it very convenient by leaving her place (45mins) to come to my house. I had alot of doubts with a few questions on the forms and I felt more comfortable to invest $600 for certainty and a peace of mind.

Very nice.

using a lawyer for some stuff like this is a good idea but sometimes it will be a good thing to do it yourself.

I have a problem with my immigration lawyer too - the paralegal told me that they filed my I-130, I-485, I-765 and the affidavit of support that my husband filled out in April but we only got the I-797C on July 19. And when I searched for my Receipt Number on the USCIS site, it says that they received my application on July 17 so it means that my lawyer didn't really file them in April. I'm so disappointed coz we paid them $2,000. :(

I got a call from my lawyer today and she informed me that she will send it off when I bring her my two photos. Apparently, she is paying the difference without me suggesting.

It pays to know how to communicate effectively and getting the same results as oppose to confrontation. I kindly asked if there was any particular reason she did this separately and I was hoping to evade the fee increase. Therefore, she read between the lines and did the right thing.

Oh well, it could have been worse. Thank God everything is clarified.
