I have my interview in Pittsburgh in 2 weeks.
I`ll be coming from out of town (Charleston,WV) -- from South (I-79). I have been in Pittsburgh a few times but not really familiar with the city. We have a INS office in Charleston,WV (that`s where I had my GC FPs, GC stamped 5 years ago, N-400 FPs done) but because of a clerical error at VSC, my interview ,along with others, in March is scheduled at Pittsburgh.
My interview is at 3000 Sidney St.
1). Did you have your interview at 3000 Sidney St ?
I can only find the office at Liberty Ave/Grant St(Federal Bldg) on INS website but not the Sidney St address.
I tried to locate it on Yahoo Maps - I got Sidney St but it says 3000 could not be located.
> My interview was at the downtown office. Try mapquest. I was able to locate Sidney St on there. It seems to be in the "South Side" of the 'burgh. Like Kashinath mentioned, they moved. That would explain the movers I noticed while filing for my wife's AOS last month at the downtown office.
2).Can I find easy parking there ?
> Not sure about that. I would just get there about an hour earlier and try to find parking there.
3).Reaching the office much earlier (say more than 15 min) than the scheduled time - Is it of any advantage like avoiding long lines or finishing the interview early ?
>You can try or request that when you stick your interview letter in the tray but the day I was interviewed they seemed to call interviewees in the same order that they were scheduled. Pittsburgh USCIS is not terribly crowded...well usually.
4).Any better way, you locals know, to reach that location than the directions on Yahoo maps/Mapquest.
>I would just follow the directions in mapqest. Perhaps Kashinath can shed some light here.
5).In which area should I look for a nice hotel to stay overnight (the previous night) ?
>There are plenty of hotels on the other side of the river in Downtown Pittsburgh. But since they can be expensive you can try the Oakland area close by also on the other side of the river. It has some good motels since that is the Univ. of Pit campus. is located there.
6). How soon is the oath after the interview, if there is no FBI name check delay ? I know your case was delayed for several months for the name check but do you know of others who got oath ceremony with no delay due to name checks ? If so how soon?
>Assuming no FBI name check, it should be pretty quick based on the information from three people I know who got naturalized. Your interviewer might even be able to schedule you right then. I know there is a oath ceremony on the third Friday of every month at the Federal courthouse and in addition to that, I believe there are some administrative ones also.
