Anyone filed i485 last month or this month

I sent my I485 application to Chicago on Jan. 25, 2005. I included I140 receipt (not approval receipt, my I140 is pending) in my package. So far, I have not received the I485 receipt, and my checks have not been cashed. I believe the amount of checks were correct. Anyone has an idea what is going on there. I consulted an attorney and he said they might send my package back, because I have not got I140 approved and not have an approval notice in package. Is it correct?

I checked Post Office and they confirmed that Chicago office had received the package on Jan. 27, 2005.

Why do I need to send to Nebraska? I heard that effective Dec.1 2004,I need to mail my I-485 application to Chicargo. Could you explain it? Thanks.
 
Actually I don't know why, I just sent 485 to NSC last month and got the notice receipt days ago since my 140 was sent to NSC.

Joyo,

You made an error. The USIC notice regarding the Chicago lockbox address clearly states that only I-485 applications for family-based adjustments need to be sent to the Chicago lockbox. If your 485 is based on an I-140, you need to send the 485 to the appropriate USCIS Service Center for your state. You can find this notice directly on the home page for USCIS.

I am amazed that you discussed this with an attorney and he/she didn't catch this.

Thank you for you guys responses. I think you are right. I just made a mistake and sent my package to a wrong place. I received my package yesterday. It has been rejected and returned by Chicago center. The notice in package says,

"The application/petition you filed along iwth any fee you submitted is being returned to you for the following reasons:

Other: Please refer to the accompanying notice (Form M-180) for further information. If a M-180 is not enclosed, your application is being rejected for the reason below.

This office does not have jurisdiction to accept the appliction/petition you submitted. The application/petition alson giwht any fees and supporting documention is being returend to you with this notice. Please submit your completed applicatio/petition to the USCIS office or service center with jurisdiction."

Now, I am planing to resubmit my I485 application to NSC. I have two questions about this application.

1. Do you guys think it would be better to use an attorney to present you for this application. Actually, I've finished my all I485 forms. I don't need the attorney to do anything. I just wonder whether there is any different that you hire an attorney or file this application by yourself.

2. There is a question in I485 form.
"Have you ever before applied for permanent resident status in the U.S.?"

Should I answer 'Yes' or 'No'? Do they have any record to know I 've sent my I485 application to Chicago once?

Of course, this is only my opinion, but I would have an attorney file the 485 on my behalf. No offense, but you already made an error that cost you several weeks and you still seem to have uncertainties regarding your application. If, for some reason, you receive an RFE, an attorney can make responding to it easier and possibly can make the difference between your 485 being denied or approved. If you do decide to hire an attorney, DO NOT hire the one you consulted about the Chicago lockbox address. He/she didn't even know where to file the 485! In my opinion, unless you have an above-average knowledge of immigration laws, rules, etc., you are much safer hiring an attorney. Your future is certainly worth it, isn't it?
