I met a guy in a friend's baby shower last weekend, he told me he used to have a good friend who used to work in California service center, she told him that she
indeed heard the rumor while she was working there -- that lots of cases have been affected by the shred incident, from the location of places, the chance of
485 is very high(or part of them are 485)

I thought..

It was Jan 2002??? (may be wrong) - but I guess if your case has been touched in any way since then - then what are the chances you could be affected? no clue!!!

Lets not be too hasty

In getting all worried - I repeat, if your case has been touched in any way - including FP, EAD &AP etc etc... could it really be missing????

I spoke to an officer when I was getting an emergency AP and he had my file right in from of him to approve it. He looked at the I485 receipt I 140 etc and everything.

I guess they go through that process every time they give you any benefit at all during the process.

I know I am a terrible worrier too, but the only thing we can do is look at the facts, I guess. Thats what keeps me going anyway.

those AP or EAD or 485 to them are seperate cases, and your AP case is in front of them does not mean your 485 physical case document is in front of them (Otherwise their office will be like mess)

plz, stop spreading these BS rumors

Think about it....

It has to be a rumor. A lot of Jan cases including myself got FP notices. If the file doesn't exist, why would you be getting notices of expired prints?

nd0222

what if it is real and if your case is invloved , are you going to just stay calm for the next 2 3 years, until they wash your case out?

The dates and your data entry are just recorded in their DB. (so while your FP expires, opf course the system know)
But the way they process the case is based the queue of the physical documents not the queue in their database.

So I do not really show if it is really a rumor, hope it is

the shredding surely has impacted the applications but should have been resolved by now. Based on Kashmir's report Jan cases are getting RFE's.

Mine is also a Feb 2002 case. Had so far no trouble in inuquiring about my case. Got my 3rd EAD and AP recently in Feb 2004. I remember sending the EAD/AP application to the PO BOX meant for I-485 application (as it was suggested so). Also, saw in this forum Jan 485 cases being approved. So, hopefully things have got resolved by now. Some excerpts from the websites listed above.

In response to the discovery of the document destruction, those who had filed applications and petitions at the California Service Center but had not yet received a receipt for their applications were urged to call a hotline at the Center to inquire about the status of their cases (1-949-831-8427). Applicants and petitioners who had received receipts during the period in question could also call the hotline to check the status of their cases. Where cases could not be found, applicants were then assisted in reconstructing their cases for processing by the Center. Also, INS re-mailed to applicants all requests for additional information that were sent out during the period in which the shredding took place.

I would say, if a government agency destroyed someones application w/o any reason but negligence, this agency is in big trouble. This is United States and not a pissed off 3d world country, where most of us came from.

This case already got public attention some time ago, it was stated that only portion of insignificant correspondence was destroyed, actual applications were not affected. This is information which I read by myself.

I agree with ND022202.
Look at it this way - there's still a ton of pre-shred people that are not approved yet. There are also Jan people who got RFE/FP notices.
The date is currently 1/9 and that's not the oldest case they are processing. No panic, please.
Also, if I understood correctly, you wouldn't have gotten the receipt notice if your case were shredded.
