Anybody Called Iio??

Looks like no one called INS

Looks like no one called INS in the last few days.

Anybody????

I called

Called last week.
Was following up on the progress of 485.
The way IIO replied seems that there is some backlog out in INS and the load is not able to be cleared on time. Therefore I was told that I should not be surprised if my turn (RD jan 18th 2002) comes sometimes in May/June 2003.
Any way Iam just sharing what I came to know last week has depressed me and many.

thanks munnabhai

here is the mail from my lawyer

Excerpt:
I just spoke with Ken Elwood, DD of the Philadelphia District Office regarding rumors of a temporary halt in approvals for adjustment and naturalization applications. He explained that the rumors are true. He believes that the halt will be brief lasting 1-2 weeks. Approvals will be issued once the FBI has modified its system to provide INS offices with confirmation that a particular applicant has no criminal or other record of interest to the INS. Under current procedures, when an individual has no record the FBI does nothing, and the INS waits a certain amount of time after submission of the record for the FBI to do nothing and then the INS goes ahead and approves the case. If the individual has a record, it is reported to the INS and the required response is taken.

According to DD Elwood the halt is based upon recent events in the NY District office which were reported in the NY Times last week. A person with a security issue was approved for permanent residence. As a result, the AG has determined that the FBI system is unacceptable and must be changed so that an affirmative response is submitted to the INS regarding each record check. Once the FBI has modified their system, and begins issuing the affirmative responses, approvals of benefits
applications will resume.

some time?

The INS waits for some time after FBI does nothing for some time. What are you talking about? Is this talking about the computer response time (which should be in seconds or minutes). But if it is about human response, it may be days, weeks or months for FBI to do nothing and another days/weeks/months for INS to issue approval.

What a big pain!
