I am planning a vacation. Was wondering if anyone has been to Switzerland? I have been there for 1/2 a day but wanted to know if somoene had been there for more than 2 days...which hotel to stay at..what to look at..

Zurich is one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe.
You are planning to visit the gem of the Old Continent.

I don't have info on hotels but you can easily check that online. And you can even call them for free using VoIP buster.

Find a hotels online and call them.

You will see one of the cleanest cities in the world, you will see young people everywhere, you will enjoy the best food.

I envy you...

It's not such a great idea to go now - wait untill May - it will be marvelous then. It's now snowy, grey and muddy.
Don't give it more than two-three days for Zurich.
Start early from behind HauptBanhoff (Central Railway Station) and follow Banhofstrasse (one of the main streets) towards the lake. Explore ancient side-streets with very cool litte shops and spent money at numerous cafes. The cheapest way to have a lunch is in Migros City restaraunt. Migros City is a mall, the restaraunt is on the top floor. It's very good, modern-european, and not expensive. If you make it there by 4pm, you would then have time to go to the lake. Depends on the weather, but it's a lot of fun to take waterbycicle. Take one of the numerous boat tours around the lake. Don't go on night tours - it's freezing and not romantic. Feed the swons - there are hundreds of them hanging on the beach - it's a lot of fun - these pigs would eat anything from potato cheaps to nails.
I would give it another morning to Zurich's city center - just to hang around, get inside the phone booth which pays classical music when you get into it, then take a street railway to HauptBanhof, and go to Luzern - the most beautiful town in Switzerland. It's no-brainer to have a good time there - the railway station is in the city center. Stay there overnight - there are tons of hotels - and next morning go to Pilatus - the highest mountain in Switzerland. It's awesome.
Next day get out of the city and go to the mountains. It's worth it to wake up at 6, take a 1.5 hours boat trip to Wiznau/Weggis, from there cablecar (luftseilbahn) to Rigi Ku'lm, hang out there, then get a cable car to Arth Goldau, and then at night train to Zurich. (This trip is considered to be the most fascinating in Zurich vicinity).

Anyways, tourist counseling kiosk in Zurich trail station would be able to work out the best travel program for you, and advise you how you can spend your money the most expensive way. They speak excellent english. My advise - don't focus on Zurich - go places, especially mountains. And say "Gruezi" right and left.

As far as the hotels go - I really don't know. Don't overpay for those in the city center. And if you want to spend money - get one on the bank of the lake.

And, no - Switzerland is not my COP.
