Hello All-

Just wondering whether there is a limit as to how much time someone can spend out of the country when travelling on a RTD. Some say anything more than one month is not recommended whereas some say that not more than 6 months because that is the time limit for LPR's with green cards to comply with before losing permanent resident status.

Has anyone travelled out of the country for more than a month on a RTD? Please post your experience upon returning to the US. Thanks.

Thanks for ur reply bringslite...any problems with immigration officers at the point of entry? I was under the impression that even green card holders lose their permanent residency if they are out of the country for more than 6 months.

Less tha 3 min.

In my case, it took only about 3 min., but again that was before 9/11. As long as your RTD is valid you can stay overseas and then come back o.k.

GC users can stay for up to a year without a TD or an advanced permission to return to the US, but that time spent overseas is counted against their citizenship application.

for more details.
