Digital photo and digital signature for EAD ???

Is this a new procedure ?

I went for my I-485 FP on 10/23/2004 and after they were done with the FP for I-1485 , they took my picture , 1 more FP and 1 digital signature. The ASC guys said this was for the EAD . I checked with my friends and they did did not have to do this when they went for their FP in July 2004.

I think you should get it by then. But, to use AP you need to have EAD - else, you cannot work when you come back. In fact, I have heard that you may need EAD just to come back..
