Any info would be great.

Again thanks so much, I wish I joined this forum sooner.
If anyone knows of any good lawyers in Los Angeles or how to go about finding one please let me know, thanks so much, it's a new year and I really have to get the ball rolling.
Once I apply and everything (hopefully) gets sorted out, am I able to visit my friends in London again?

Hey JT, I pmed you. A good lawyer will help out, but, with the whole process including lawyer and USCIS fees you may pay close to $4K.

Yea I suppose there are cheaper lawyers but I guess you really don't know if they're good. In LA, a good lawyer probably costs over $2000. If they charge less maybe they're a smaller law firm or not as experienced in immigration cases.

So 2K plus 1.5K in USCIS fees comes out to 3.5K. If your lawyer is a bit more expensive, then you're hitting close to 4K. The lawyer that my wife and I used was referred to us by a friend who had some issues with previous marriages where the husband wasn't technically divorced yet. They used this lawyer through the AOS process and were able to get a green card. We decided to go with them even though their fee was over 2K and just got my wife's green card. I don't mind paying over 2K for a lawyer as long as they get the job done.

How do you know the more expensive lawyers are any better then the cheaper ones? My total was 2400. That's a fair price to pay for my overstay!

The correct fee for Adjustment of Status is $ 1010.00 (all forms), plus the medical exam which may vary from $ 150 to $ 400, plus, obviously, the cost of a lawyer.
Good luck, I'm sure you will be fine in the end. Just don't leave the US until all the immigration process is over. Since you overstayed you may be banned for 10 years if you leave now.

What about the $355.00 for I-130? So in effect the correct fee for all forms will be $1010 + $355 = $1365.00

Take a loan and do it yourself. Much cheaper. Does not matter if you have a lawyer or not on the interview.

What kind of papers will I need to take the interview?
I wanna make sure I have everything together.

Happy New Year everyone.

Someone told me today that because I've been here 2 years on an expired Visa it could hinder my chance of getting my GC?

Yea I agree that you definitely need a lawyer in your situation. If you weren't arrested I think you could do it without one. However, on the application for AOS they ask you if you have ever been arrested for anything and you would have to say yes. That would be a red flag and they would look into it.

If you lie and put no and they find out, it's an automatic rejection and you'd be deported. I realize it is a lot of money for a good lawyer but it's an investment in your life. Either you're going to be able to live here legally, have a job and live a normal life, or you're going to be deported if you make a mistake on your application.

Now you probably could research different lawyers, but realize in Los Angeles you are probably looking at a $2000 fee at least, and usually they charge $100 to have just a consultation with them. It could get pricey just trying to choose a lawyer.

As someone said, maybe look into getting a loan or use a credit card.
