What kind of campaign

Rajum,
If you ask me...I really don't think its worth the effort to puruse these
issues with senators / congressmen.

I really think we should, as a group, petition the Director of VSC; as also
ask for a meeting/appointment. We need to talk to Paul Novak, who
happens to be the Director as of now. Talking to him face to face is,
in my opinion, where the biggest bang for the buck is.

And needless to say, that can be feasible only if we have a substantial #.

Count me in!

If we can find a way to contact the Director of VSC. But before that, we may need somebody to lead the way.

Of course we can find a way ...

I mean the Director of VSC is an official, a human being, who works out of
an office , and presumably somewhere in the VSC Building.

I mean it shouldn't be impossible to find out where he works out from
or to seek an appointment.

I think what makes meeting him or getting an appoinment with him impossible
is an effort by one/two individuals trying the same.

On the other hand I have zero doubts that we can get one if there is an
organization / group of a few dozen upwards of affected applicants. That
makes it a serious enough initiative. Else it remains a fragmented, isolated
individual initiative.

If 30-40-50 people, in a civilized, organized way seeks such an appointment,
I don't think it can be refused.

Learn to MEDITATE atleast 10 minutes daily before going to sleep or getting up from bed ..
PRAY GOD FIRST to give PEACE OF MIND TO YOU and YOUR FAMILY..

then PRAY him to direct a tiny bit of His WISDOM LIGHT to the people who are working at USCIS and DOLs so that they will wake up from the DARKNESS of SLEEP....

If you happen to be a great nation called India ( which I am assuming that
you are ) , you should be the last person to be averse to the idea after
having accepted the HUNGER STRIKE maestro as MAHATMA. !!!

The idea's still on......and only for me and by me ...

So why ridicule...just join maybe ???

About Campaign

I think if Indian (one the biggest immigrating community to US) should file for withdrawl for their I-140/I-130/I-485 petition from USCIS as a measure to demonstrate their believe in CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE, mey be that will wake up DIRECTOR, USCIS. Although you may have difficult time to find people to believe in this philopshy. As you might have seen so many effort have been tried even at the levels of Lawyers, but all in vein. Let us try to find out who many of dreamers of GC like us are ready to sacrifice their dream for the sake of US authorities to realise that they are wrong to create a GC nightmare for us.

I dont mean to redicule your idea. But, what makes you think that CIS would care if someone withdraws his/her petition. They will probably increase the delays so that people can pull their petitions off and thus reduce the backlog.

On the thought of a compaign ...
I have seen various efforts from lawyers (Rajiv Khanna) and some of the forum members. They seemed to work to some extent.
The idea of Sumanta (meeting with VSC director) has not been, probably, tried yet. I wonder how that works out.
Also, is it a good idea to use the media to sound our voice (misery)? I am not sure if that was tried earlier and if not, I am not sure how to go about it. Media, in this country, has strong outcome. ButI doubt if anyone in the media would be willing to help us as they would be the easy target of anti-immigration sentiments if they do so.

Let's think what can work best

I have zero doubts about the efficacy of CIVIL DIS.

Its very effective.

However, in this case, let's explore where's the biggest bang for the
buck is.

I think nothing can be more result-oriented than if 50 - 100 of us could
meet in a delegation with VSC Director; talk to him, explain, submit a
memorandum. Just imagine....50-100 working, well earning professionals,
putting forth legitimate concerns.

Fact is, the more the size of the group, the harder will it be to
turn down such a request of appointment. And if really turned down indeed,
we can have a token protest.

Else, a protest or CIVIL DIS w/o mainstream and proper-channel efforts
would be deemed uncivilized and almost bordering on criminal.

For hakoonamataata

Seems like you are UNDERMINING the magic effect of CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE to the authorities.

I do agree you will have hard time to find peoplw who are ready to volunteer for this.

How about a tele-conference this weekend ?

Shall we post for a phone-conference this weekend ? Sun maybe ?
A 1-800 or 1-888 kinda # where people can call in ?

I agree a lot of folks would be scared. But quite a few would not be scared
either. Especially when we aren't doing anything scary.

Lets try for an appointment with VSC director. 30-40 people may be good idea but I feel that most of the time we will end up in logistics. I prefer around 5 with signatures from the rest.

thanks,

This weekend is a long weekend. We will shoot for next week.

Rajum...why not a few of us..a smaller group start talking ?

If its feasible. I am free till Sun. Why not a small group start talking ?

Others can be brought in with time.

Talking takes time, needs a lot of consensus generation.

Rajum, if you want, we can touch base on phone.
