Any experience with Change of Address/State?

I might be moving to another state in a few months and am soon going to be eligible to apply for US citizenship. Should I file as soon as I am eligible from where I currently live and then move to the new state OR should I first move, wait 90 days in the new state, and then file? Is there a problem to change address/state while N-400 is being processed? Please advise.

Thanks!!

If it's only a month or two difference to wait and file in your new district, then I'd wait. I was in a similar situation, although my move did not materialize anyway.

From what I understand, so long as your case is still with the service center and not yet transferred to your "old" DO, then it should not make much difference -- the SC will send to your new DO once they get your new address via the national customer service center -- and they'll hold off scheduling your interview until you're eligible in your new state / district (i.e. you won't gain anything). What is less certain is how much you might be delayed if your files are already at your old DO.

In my opinion, anytime you ask the USCIS to move files / transfer cases between offices, or re-schedule or delay something that they've scheduled for you, you open yourself up to all kinds of potential problems. Wait if you can.

Did you mean to say that if you move within the same Service center it will get delayed more than if you were to move to a different Service Center? I was thinking moving within the same Service Center (although it could be a different state or DO) it should not be much delayed beyond the service dates corresponding to the DO within that Service Center.

I can only go from the advice of an attorney whose advice I received on another site. I don't think it makes much difference whether your new DO is within the jurisdiction of the SC that you submitted your N-400 to; the SC will complete it's part then send it on to whatever new DO you've moved to, even if it's one outside its area. In other words, I was told they won't transfer it to another SC.

In otherwords, you can move to states within the same SC (VSC, TSC, NSC, etc.) without much hassle but not to states from one SC to another...Can anybody else throw some light on this. Also if one has had their finger printing done and then is required to move to a different state within the same SC how long does the file take to get transferred. Has anybody been in this situation or has heard of cases like this and what has been the general experience?
