Any comment on brith certifcate from Indian consulate ?

Does anybody tried to get birth certifcate from Indian consulate, chicago ? Does that work with I-485 application ?

Will it create REF ? or anywhere in I-485 application or on INS website mentioned we shouldn't get birth certifcate from Indian consulate. (I think they create from passport).

Gurus, please advise.

Thanks a lot.

BC from consulate

can be used instead of non availability certificate. I would suggest getting affidavits just to cover all options. My opinion.

My 2 cents

A Birth Certificate is normally issued by the office of Registrar of Births and deaths in your local municipality or panchayat. Indian consulate maybe able to issue a BC as it is the office representing the country and its residence and is established for the facility. I am not sure if they will issue a BC - if they do, it will be and should be as genuine as any other issued by any other office.

Personally, if I can get a BC that would be my first preference if not then affidavits. But at no cost you should have both as it contradicts each other and it will considered fraud or suppresion of factual or material information.

Jaxen, I differ from your thoughts. BC is BC and not Non-avail. Cert. Affidavits are done only when one is not availalbe.

INS doesnot validate the birth certificate from Consulate. I know a case personaly from NJ where they tried to use the certificate taken from NY consulate. VSC came up with rfe and asked for birth certificates from india.

Concerns

ghost-rider,
The information you posted although correct concerns me. My simple mind fail to understand why INS will not validate the BC. Further, it means that it is quesioning the authority of the office of the Consul General of India. In such a case, why would INS validate or not validate - a passport issued, a Police clearence certificate, a Name change and many other such services we Indians get accomplished through the consular office...???

.... Bedazzled
