you should get a reponse in writting letter.

Sometime back there was fear that their case might be transferred to local office if they contact congressman for status inquiry but I don't think that has no relevance to transfer.

Disadvantage is your case will be transferred to congress liaision division of BCIS and you cannot contact BCIS directly for status inquiry but it is not disadvantage anymore since we cannot contact BCIS directly these days.
