Any Australian Winners Yet? 2010

Upgraded and USA Dream, it strikes me as odd that you are both so desperate to live in the USA but don't seem to want to take advantage of the many programs that are available to Australians as a temporary measure. Australians are incredibly fortunate to have so many non-tourist avenues of entry to the US... there's a one year working holiday program for uni/TAFE students; 4 month working holiday programs over the summer for uni (and I think TAFE) students; 1 and 2 year au pair programs; camp counselor programs; student exchange programs; the E-3 visa if you have a university degree.

Some of the programs are not very expensive at all outside the plane fare and visa costs and most don't have overly stringent requirements. Why don't you stop sitting in Australia, complaining about not winning DV, and take advantage of one of these temporary visas. Go there, see what life in the USA is really like (tip: it has a lot more to offer than just Walmart and all night diners), see if you think you could live without a government health/welfare support network like Australia offers, and most importantly build up some contacts. That way, if you do win the DV lottery you'll be far more prepared to go and have a support network and maybe even a job upon your permanent return.

I better hope Upgraded gets a letter this year. If not, we'll be looking forward to multiple threads exposing the lottery as a "scam". It's that time of year again when Upgraded starts opening threads!

It just strikes me as odd one of the most corrupt countries in the world the USA would just give citizenship's to people on minimum wage and low qualifications just because they win a lottery, as opposed to perhaps choosing doctors, lawyers, specialists from the huge list of people applying to go to the USA.

I'd like to live in Australia more than the states :)
I just don't like those spiders in bedroom, crocodiles in courtyards etc...
