Ansering the question on N400 about lieing

Experts, Please advice.

I was coming from India and my mother has packed some fruits to eat during my flight. Somehow she packed those in my check in bags. I completely forgot about those during my flight. When I filled my immigration form where it asks that, Are you bringing any fruits etc? I marked as NO. I passed the immigration and came to baggage claim, I could smell the fruits from bag. I went to screening counter and admitted to them that some fruits are still in my bag. The officer screened the bag and confirmed about the fruits. I open the bag and threw the fruits. The officer did not gave me any citation, or penalty. I did not paid any fine etc and do not have any document to attach with N-400.

Now the question is that, should I answer ‘YES’ or “NO” to the question, have you ever lied to any government official to gain entry or admission to United States? If yes, then shall I attach an explanation to the incident with N-400?

I don't see the lie. In fact, you did the opposite by approaching the customs officer and declaring the fruit. Answer NO.

I have to believe the intent of this question is to ascertain whether you have ever misrepresented yourself at a U.S. Consulate to obtain a U.S. visa, or at a U.S. border crossing or U.S. port of entry to gain admission into the U.S. - not whether your mom inadvertently packed fruits in your checked luggage... :)

Thanks to all the experts. I will put 'NO' on my form and if this comes during interview process then I will explain him and if he needs this in written, I'd be happy to write that down, sign it.

Thanks you all.

Shall I send the two N-400 in single envelop or different envelops

N400 is very simple. Keep it that way and you'll be fine.
