Do you get the IMM1000 Record of Landing when you land? Or they don't give it anymore because of the PR card availability?

I landed yesterday and was only given the third copy of my landing paper. the immigration officer said this is similar to a paper driver's license. If I am going to US, I don't need maple card to return to Canada -- this paper license is enough. but if I am going anywhere else, I need the card to come back. I will get my card in 4 to 6 weeks.
