I had my interview yesterday and passed with flying colors.
As some of you may remember i have been trying to loose weight with minimal success. However, during last 2 weeks I have being starving myself with the crazy idea of looking slim once I'll be able to make my first travel back to COP after 10 years of absence.
My case was a simple asylum case, no international travel, no passport renewal, only a speeding ticket, studied the 100 questions for 2 monts or so... but if everything is ok, why do I feel anxious and let's face it...nervous?
During the last week before interview the first signs of weaknees started to show up. When I wake up at mornings i had to use my right feet first to prevent bad luck, I had to choose the suit for the interview based on which ones are lucky, when working with computers if I see an error message saying something such as "Access Denied", my first though is this a premonition? Will I be denied Citizenship? Reading "ImmigrationPortal" everyday didn't help much, neither...all those messages talking about slow process, waiting for months even years, inquisitive Immigration Officers rejecting applications based on finding that you had sexual dreams with the sister of your wife.
Yesterday, the day of the interview was a different thing. Arrived 20 minutes before interview, took a chair close to the door where officers calls applicants. A fast look to the room showed like 50 people from all ages and races waiting, some were giving a last minute review to the civic questions, some others were trying to look like confident. Every five minute or so applicants who already finished the interview were leaving the office. You can tell by their face the results of the interview. Smiley face = Success,
*!*#$% Face = Fail. I will say that more than 90% were happy faces.
Since my interview was set for 10 a.m. I decided not to take breakfast trying to have an empty stomach for the interview, so by the time i was called 40 minutes later or so i was completely hungry. A young and friendly officer walked me to his office, then swore me. Asked me to put the passports, Driver's Licence and greencard on his desk, suddenly I saw it!: A big delicious unopen chocolate bar from Dove was siting on his desk...Oh my god!, I need it!
He then went thru my N400.
Then he proceeded with the civic questions:
1. In which month do we vote for President?
2. How many voting members in the House of Representatives?
3. We elect US Representative for how many years?
4. Who is the Chief Justice of The United Stataes now?
5. Name one war fought by the United States in the 1900s.?
6. When do we celebrate Independence Day?
And he asked me to read: Who is the father of our Nation? and wrote the answer: Washington is the father of our Nation.
.
He then gave me the form N-652 (recommended for approval), and told me to wait for the oath letter. So that was it, painless, really easy.
So please don't do like me, interview it's a very easy process, take it seriously but do not exagerate!
