Hyderabad: Even before the city of Vijaywada could recover from the shock of the gruesome murder of a girl student of a local college by another student this week, another ghastly incident has rocked the city. But this time, a city girl has been killed thousands of kilometres away in the US by her husband.

Divya had gone missing on June 14 and the Middleburg Bank, where she used worked, had lodged a complaint with the police about her disappearance. Meanwhile, the police found pieces of human body dumped in a garbage yard.
After matching the body with the missing person, the police raided the house where they found blood stains, and arrested Divya's husband, Praveen Kumar, on charges of killing her. In Vijaywada, Divya's father Satyanarayana said his family had received the last call from Divya on June 12 and she asked her mother to arrange the money her husband had been demanding for a long time.
Satyanarayana said Divya, married to Praveen Kumar in February 1999, was being tortured at the hands of her husband for a long time. Initially, Praveen pressurised Divya to force her younger sister, Deepti, to marry his younger brother, Rajesh Kumar, in Hyderabad. Eventually, Deepti married Rajesh in November last year.
Later, both the sisters were tortured by their husbands and in-laws for dowry, even though the family had paid a dowry of Rs 8 lakh apart from other valuables to Praveen Kumar. Unable to bear the torture, Deepti returned to her parent's house in May this year.
