an old fairytale

Like all those who are still waiting for the approval of i-485, I am approching the two year mark (ND March 2002). To tell you the truth, I feel like the guy in that movie "outcast" being left on a remote island who still gets up every morning and walks to the shore to check if a ship is coming. The thing is that it is more like each of us is on a deserted island of his/her own without knowing when the boat is coming to his/her rescue. Some of the lucky ones (say 5% of the screwed-by-bcis population) who were dropped into this vast ocean of BCIS ignorance got a visit by a merchant boat and saved without waiting as long as some others have to. But for the majority of the guys, including myself, who are still waiting to get picked up by an airplane passing by, here is that old fairytale about snow white and her little prince.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl known as snow white. One day, snow white met a prince and saw a better life to move to the prince's kingdom and live happily ever after. However, since she was a foreigner to the kingdom, she had to get some kind of a permit to live permanently there. Let's say the person in charge of permits was the prince's cynical mother, and she would not allow a marriage between snow white and the prince. Having just killed the story line for the marriage between snow white and the prince, let's keep it going by saying that snow white was so impressed by the kingdom's living style, she was determined to come to the kingdom. She found out that she could live permanently in the kingdom by finding some kind of work there. So, she arranged to work in a farm and milk cows for the kingdom. Now, snow white went to the prince's mother and tried to apply for the permit to live permenantly there. Common sense says why the heck would the mother make a fast approval for snow white, given that she was a damn foreigner never heard of before. Well, as an assignment from the mother, snow white had to first demonstrate that she can milk the cow faster than any other local milkers. To do that, snow white had to post some notices all around the countryside to challenge other local milkers for a due. Luckily, snow white held up her end of the bargain, which was either no local milkers dared to compete with her, or she had to went through some competitions to get buckets of milk cleaner and faster. Say that was done. Snow white came back to the mother hoping that it was it for the permit. No no...says the mother, that was only the first test of them all. Snow white had to formally submit some paperwork, get herself naked and checked up by some local medicine man, and keep getting fingerprinted every year or so. The mother told snow white that there were other foreign milkers, farmers like her slaving in the kingdom waiting for the permit. Now that she was formally a candidate, snow white could do nothing to speed up the process but to show up every day doing a good work to milk cows better in hoping that the local boss wouldnot find some other milkers. The wait was on...a year had passed. In that year, from time to time, snow white just wanted to go home and live with her families. But she had gone so far that she kept persuading herself to hold on for that the end was coming. Another year was in the history book, and snow white was still there milking...

How do you guys like the story so far. I hope you like it, and I will write the conclusion the day I got my i-485 approved. Guys, I am offering you this amuzment on the eve of the Chinese new year. I understand that we all suffered a lot, and the waiting is still on. But let's cheer up and keep milking those cows with a smily face for that doing otherwise could not draw a damn sympathy word from the mother, and you would just put your days of waiting more unbearable.
Happy New Year.

Happy new year! :)

Hopefully your wait is drawing to its end. With a ND of Oct 2002, I have to wait atleast another year so cheer up with the thought that there are others much worse off than you! :)

Happy New Year!!!!Maybe writing this story could be considered an extraordinary ability and speed up your process:D :p

Let me add a little twist to the story. Snow white would dutifully milk the cow, when one day the cow owner decided that the cow was not giving enough milk; he was not making profits and the cow would hence have to be killed. Now, if the cow were no longer there, Snow white would not have a job and she would be asked to leave the kingdom. So she would have to find another cow which was same or similar (the criterion for similarity would be determined only by the evil queen) before the current cow was disposed off. Mind you, working in a poultry farm, or even milking a goat or camel would not do.

So the saga goes on...

Happy New Year!

I hope snow white will have her permit soon, and she'll live happily ever after!
What is the end of the story for the other foreign milkers, though?

Actually, this is a sad story for New Year. Instead of browsing this forum, right now Snow White really wants to enjoy big feast with family back home.
