How do I find out if I am waiting due to retrogression or if I am stuck in some other part of the GC process?

Hello Gurus,
I had a question related to the request for more evidence. Can someone please let me know WHAT is usually requested? My spouse is supposed to travel out of the country (AP) this Thursday and yesterday, Friday i saw the message that the request of evidence was sent out. Of course, being a long weekend/Memorial Day I wonder if it'll arrive in time. Should my spouse delay his leave? Is it possible that he will be needed here? (fingerprints expired on April 17th but we did not receive any notification to redo them)
