Am I subjected to two year home stay requirement?

Hi folks,

I am from India, currently a student in Japan. My university (public NOT private) in Japan will sponsor my stay as a 4-months scholar in a partner university in the US. I need to obtain a J-1 visa. How do I know whether I am subjected to 2 year home stay requirement or not.

Any help, suggestions will be highly appreciated.
