Good afternoon all,
To make the long story short, my application for citizenship has been "Recommended for approval" by an officer and I have been scheduled for the Oath Ceremony that will take place tomorrow (7 January 2010).
Since my appointment was at 1:40 PM today, I showed up at the front desk at around 1:00. The two hour wait was the only difficult part. I felt like I was about to undergo some kind of surgery or about to take a final exam in school. Finally, my name was called... what followed was the most pleasant interaction with USCIS officials.
I had spent quite some time preparing for the interview (thanks to this forum) and had a thick folder with documents ranging from tax transcripts to birth certificates. It turned out that none of the documents were needed. Of course, I am in no way recommending that you show up with no documents for your interview as each case is unique.
The officer was super nice. First, she apologized for the wait. Then the oath followed and she began going through the N-400. No focus in a particular area, just straight forward Yes/No questions. I had to make a few modifications since I was a bit careless when I filled out the N-400 – not a problem.
Then the reading/writing test was to read "When is Columbus Day?" and to write "Columbus Day is in October".
Then the civics test questions followed. They were:
1. What did the Declaration of Independence do?
2. We elect a U.S. Senator for how many years?
3. What does the President’s Cabinet do?
4. If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?
5. Name one branch or part of the government.
6. How many justices are on the Supreme Court?
She stamped my application with the "approved".
In the end, she apologized (again) for not being able to schedule me for the same day oath. That was not a problem for me since I work not too far from the Fairfax USCIS location.
That was all. Almost time to celebrate!
Finally, this forum has been an excellent resource of information. Thank You to all contributors!
