Riddle me this... (taken from "The Hobbit")

A) What has roots as nobody sees,
Is taller than trees,
Up, up it goes,
And yet never grows?

B) Thirty white horses on a red hill,
First they champ,
Then they stamp,
Then they stand still.

C) Voiceless it cries,
Wingless flutters,
Toothless bites,
Mouthless mutters.

D) An eye in a blue face
Saw an eye in a green face.
"That eye is like this eye"
Said the first eye.
"But in low place
Not in high place."

E) It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills,
And empty holes it fills.
It comes first and follows after,
Ends life, kills laughter.

(and no it is not the INS)

F) A Box without hinges, key, or lid,
Yet golden treasure inside is hid,

G) Alive without breath,
As cold as death;
Never thirsty, ever drinking,
All in mail never clinking.

H) This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

I) No-legs lay on one-leg, two-legs sat near on
three-legs, four-legs got some

Words to live by - "All that glitters is not gold, all who wander are not lost." J.R.R. Tolkien

I just can't wait for Dec 18th.. for the second part in the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings". I admit the book is far far superior to the movie, but hey! something has to be said about it coming alive in SDDS...

:D

cheers all and stay out of trouble

Did you have to say taken from Hobbit;) :p :D

Ooo! that's tough..

you will now forever be known as the guy who looked at the end of the book before exercising his mental faculties.. can you live with that ;) ;) :D

If I hadn't said The Hobbit some one who have said "plagiarist" and that is not who I am..
If I had said "taken from some book", some one would have said "Hey! it is from the hobbit" without giving any of the answers and would have expected kudos for guessing that right! naa aan!!

What a guy JRRT!!! Hats off to him.

My roommate bought Robert Jordan "The eye of the world" for my bday. He feels they are in the same league, but after having read it, I still think Tolkien rules. Ofcourse Robert Jordan's is a seven book series and the eye of the world is the first one.. can't say I will read the others.

It was interesting to see people buying JRRTs and Robert Jordans at book stores in Connaught Place

Lamborghini,

As for plagiarism, u can take a leaf out of what Annu Malik has to say about the film tunes that he copies.

He says this is inspiration and not plagiarism.

:D :D ;) :p

Have you read Orson Card?

For those of you who are into fantasies, I personally think it would be a loss if you don't check out Orson Scot Card. While his style is vastly different from that of J.R.R.T., his stories are incredibly intriguing. After reading his Ender's Game, I couldn't help but continuing getting his books. He's definitely done some of the best works in the sci fi/fantasy genre.

Enjoy.
