Has anybody applied for transit visa to travel through Air Canada. My family is travelling next month and I need the details. Checked thier web site but nothing is mentioned about transit.
Called the Buffalo consulate and they said to use the visitor visa form. No fees for transit visa.
Anybody got any more details ??

If you have enough time mail it in.

I got the Canada transit visa twice. I completed form, attached a copy of my flight ticket, then use registered mail to send it to New York Canada Consulate. There is no fee for transit visa. It took about 4-6 weeks to get them back. If you are in the hurry, you can also drive down to NYC and get the transit visa on site. You need to check with them tho, as sometimes they may have it ready to you the safe afternoon and sometimes, the next morning.

smellsgood..

Do we need passport to apply for Canada Transit Visa or just form and copy of ticket is enough?

Thanks

I got my transit visa. You need to send your passport because thats where they would stamp the visa. Takes them 5 business days to process it if you send by mail. Also you need 2 latest photos.

More details please,

I did not know about this. Do they check our US visa status?

Can we get it for anyone (a person who has come on US visitor's visa )?

Thanks a lot.

gambler...

The situation is I am going to India but while coming back I am coming by Air Canada and I am going for only two weeks so I don't know if I have enough time to get transit visa for Canada in India.

Can you please list down all the documents, I am thinking if I Could apply for transit visa for coming back from here itself.

Thanks for your help.

Here are the details

Send by Priority mail to Consulate in Buffalo. Included one prepaid self addressed Priority Mail envelope. Also, send the following:
1) Download and fill up visitor visa application form. Check mark the transit visa option in the form.
2) 2 Photographs
3) Passport
4) Copy of AP
5) Copy of Tickets
6) Copy of itenary
7) covering letter stating you wish to apply for a transit visa. State the journey dates through Canada.
8) Copy of 485 receipt.
Check at their web site if you are under Buffalo region (they cater only to Upstate NY), or send your application to the corresponding consulate for your region.
If you live close to a consulate it is easier if you apply in person. You need all the above (take originals too) and you get it the same day evening.
There is no visa fees for this. I send it on Friday and got the passports back the following Tuesday ( after 10 days). They return back all the documents u send.

BTW, my wife and kids flew Air Canada to India last week and were happy with the service. Only 2 issues:
- u need to do immigration and customs when you enter Toronto from USA. So pain of taking out luggage.
- they need a letter from the parent (me) that my wife is taking the children on holiday with my consent and not running away with them :)
While coming back expect US immigration to be done in Canada itself.

Check the canadian consulate web site for details. As far as I remember they do check your status and anybody can apply for visitor/transit visa by mail.

gambler bhai

Thanks very much for your prompt replies, highly appreciate that. I have sent my passport for H-1 revalidation. If I get visa revalidated without any problem then I won't be using AP.

If I get everything right ahead of time, I will send the passport for transit visa here otherwise will go in India, since I am going only for two weeks to get my wife and kids so don't want to waste time in India on this.

Let's see how it goes.

Thanks once again

question--->
I'm also travelling by Air Canada 12/09/03 to India from Washington D.C. to Tronto & Tronto to New Delhi with my family. I've my passport stamped with I-551 stamp(US GC), however i've not recieved my Plastic cards. Can you pl. share your experiences or expertise, if i do need transit visa or not. I called Candian embassy and as per them since my passport is stamped with I-551 already, so i don't need visa for canada. But since this discussion is all about Transit visa required or not, raise my doubts. So pl. clarify if Transit visa is required in case of H1-B only or I-551 stamp/Green card holder. I hope someone can answer this question asap.

SainI

Since you already have your passport stamped, you dont need any visa. You already have the best visa :)
