Age <14, no stamping, direct GC?

My son's status has been updated and it currently says that the application has been approved on 4/7/03 and that a GC will be mailed as soon as it is ready!!
So, it looks like children do not need to go for stamping if they do not need to be fingerprinted before the issuance of GC.
Strange that nobody has mentioned it here..

Stamping is to get temporary evidence of LPR status. This is useful in travel outside US. Their passport should be stamped for your own security.
