After you arrive in the U.S.

Hi all,

My wife had won the DV 2005. Our interview was in April and now we have arrived in the US. We got a temporary green card stamped on our passports which we are told, is good for one year. After arrival, we applied for the Social Security #. My problem is that when I applied for a job at a certain place, I was told that they could not proceed with my application unless they see the original SSN card. My questions:

1. How long does it take for the SSN card to arrive after you apply ?

2. How long does it take for the actual plastic card (green card) to arrive ?

I would appreciate if anyone has had similar experience/knowledge and can inform me. Thanks....

Welcome! The SS card usually only takes 10-14 days. The actualy green card anywhere from a month to a year!
