I am a DV winner for 2008 from Europe .

I have a question about visa process .
In case I have my immigration visa approved and stamped by consulate .
I know that visa is valid for 6 months for entry .
But assuming that I could not make entry and eventually 6 months passed .
Also by that time I decided not to go to U.S.A .at all .
what then I should do ?should I contact to the embassy
I know they give an envelope to be opened at POE .
What would I do with that envelope ? Must I return it to Embassy ??

Could be a problem with this ? or they cancel it right away ??

Thanks

If you can't enter US within 6months, the visa will be lost (and you would have paid the $755 per person in vain), and it could be that you have problems if you try to enter US in the future (I assume so but this is not based on experience).
You don't need to actually move to the US within those 6months, you can just go on vacation there and activate the greencard and move there in the near future.
If you already know that you will not move to the US, then you should tell KCC and not go to an interview. If you go to the interview and get the visa but you don't intend to use it, then you take away this greencard from someone who might actually use it.

Thanks for reply

I should perhaps clear myself .
I have old parents of mine . I strongly want this GC for my future .
But if some ilness or something happens to them by the time I could find myself in a different situation and decide to stay with them .

That' s why Iasked to just know what should I do with the sealed envelope if something bad occurs in time which unfortunately might .
BecaUSE it is a official envelope they give me .And I have been a decent person always .
I would not want to jeopardize things and do somethin wrong or against
That's all.

regards .

Ok, I can understand that. I just looked up what it says about this in the information sheet which I received together with the visa and the sealed envelop:
"If you are unable to use your visa, please inform this office [US Embassy where I did the interview] whether or not you still wish to immigrate to the USA. Failure to return the unused visa may cause delay in the issuance of a new visa to you or to some other qualified applicant"

If I were you and if your parents get sick BEFORE activating the greencard, I would still travel to the US towards the end of the 6months just for a few weeks and apply for a re-entry permit. You can already travel back home before you have this permit (they will send it to your local embassy (but you have to be in the US to apply for it)) and this way you have two years time.

I agree with Igmu. You should still activate your green card.
Once you have it, you could apply for a reentry permit (form I 131) which would allow you to stay out of the US for up to 2years without jeopardizing your GC.
You have to be physically in the US when you apply, but you do not have to wait for it to go back to your country. The processing time is a few months, but they can ship it to a US embassy abroad.
This protects the GC if you know you will be out of the US for some time.
The instructions say to apply for it for absnces > 1year. The thing is that you have to apply before you leave.
