You will get closed packet with immigration visa on the outside.
1. make a copy of this immigration visa (DO NOT OPEN THE PACKET).
2. make sure all information is correct: spelling, address where plastic will be sent to, etc. If not, you can go back to consulate and request it to be fixed or alert the immigration officer at POE of the mistake(s).
3. On IV form there is IV with long number top and bottom. Make note of these numbers per each immigrant. Those are your A#.
At POE:
1. make sure right A# is written on each passport.
2. date of entry and expiry are clear and correct.
3. If necessary, inform officer of correct home address where plastic should be sent to.
4. Make sure every immigrant (but not kids) sign and give finger prints.
Congratulations! you are PR now.

Yes, you will have to leave your passport at the consulate after the interview. Although they do not stamp anything on the passport, but the covering visa sheet on the visa packet which you receive contains your passport info. Your passport is returned to you with the packet
