After receiving US passport

I am an Indian currently and soon going to Naturalize and get a US passport.

I am planning to apply for a OCI. Since OCI take 3 months, I would like to apply for a temporary Indian VISA for 6 months when OCI is getting processed. Is this correct procedure.

I am planning to follow these steps after I get my US passport, Please provide inputs.

1) Get US passport
2) Submit Indian Passport and get it cancelled
3) Apply for Indian temp Visa
4) Apply for OCI.

Is this the right procedure incase OCI gets delayed. OR can i directly apply for OCI without applying for Indian VISA? What is the expected delay for OCI processing?

Thanks

You don't have to apply for Indian VISA unless you plan to travel within few weeks following your oath ceremony. If you have no travel plans to India you can apply for OCI directly.

OCI processing time depends on the consultate that has jurisdiction over your place of residence. CGI,NY is the fastest processing consulate from my own experience and that of others in this forum.

We got passport on 04-05-2007, applied for temp 6 months multiple entry visa in the Visa Camp 0n 04-07-2007 and then sent out OCI applcn.

We were kind of not comfortable without a Visa to travel to India just in case of emergency. We also tentatively plan to travel in July so we thought 6 months visa was necessary.

Hello NSS

You said you got ur passport on 4/5 and applied for visa on 4/7. Did you not have to cancel your Indian passport ? (assuming you are from India) If YES, then did you get that done at the Visa Camp also ?
