I am due in for an oath 11/22. And arranging a business travel on 11/28. I heard they will take away the GC during Oath. So is it possible to gain entry back to US? Can they provide any stamp on my own country valid passport?

thanks,
pc

You have to surrender your greencard at the oath ceremony, and therefore, you have nothing to show your citizen status at POE without a US passport.

You can get a passport in a day if you have travel plans. Since you going on business trip, book teh ticket and ask your company to getyou the passport. they will have to pay extra but Regional passport agency are there for this reason only.

I wouldn't travel outside US without passport, even if going to canada or mexico.

ocworker: That's incorrect. The original poster can reenter on the naturalization certificate if presented at the point of entry. However, unless travelling only to neiboring countries, a US passport is teorethically needed to be brought back to the US and airlines and other carriers will rightfully request it.

Make an appointment with a regional passport agency to get your passport soon after the oath ceremony. Alternatively you can also pay the extra $$ and go through travel agents that can do the work for you (normally you can get the passport in 48 hours through the travel agents or the same day if you go in person to the passport agency with appointment).

Note that it is the law, that you have to leave and enter USA as a US Citizen after the oath ceremony. Good luck.

I am going to Taiwan with a customer. To minimize the risk I will do the 1-day passport.

Any experience with the SF agency I need to pay attention? My oath time is 9am, I guess I should be done by 1030am. And I will make an appointment at 1130am. Can I get the US passport by 5pm that day or another day?

Is it really possible to obtain the passport knowing that it is close to thanksgiving? How much it costs? Please advise.

do you think you can get out the oath by 10:30am and be to your passport appt by 1130? it seem too tight to me.

it is possible to obtain the passport if you have a confirmed ticket for traveling within next 14 days (2 weeks) from the day you try to get the passport (or appontment day).

Depending on how many people they might have to deal with on the day you go to the passport agency, they might give you back the passport on the next day.

btw, US passport holder does not need a visa to enter to taiwan if the holder plans to stay in taiwan less than 30 days (at least it was the policy about 6 yrs ago).

not sure how much they would cost. i guess they might cost the same with the expeditated service. something like that. don't forget to bring your checkbook. in case, bring cash too. i have never been to the passport office so i do not know ifthey would take personal check, visa, or cash (or all of above,or only one of above)

Good luck with SF passport agency. I took my oath on 10/27/05 and I need to fly on 11/11/05 and SF agency said "no more appointments" available. had to go through travel agent who is charging $100 for getting passport in a week. From what I have heard Chicago passport agency is the only one which can get you in 24 hrs.

You need to have confirmed tickets to do all this.

One more thing, even when you go through travel agent, you still need to go to the post office or equivalent place to get your docuements checked, pay them (including expidited charges) and post office person will seal everything in a pkg which you give to travel agent to take to passport agency.

When you apply for passport in the SF passport agency, do you get it within one day or the same day. Please can some one clarify.

What "agency" are you referring to? Are you talking about the post office? I am in the same situation. My interview is scheduled for 1/11/06, but I need to travel on 1/16/06, what is my best bet? Should I request to reschedule the interview?

Thanks,
Walter

Interview is not the same as the oath. Depending on your DO, it might not even be an option to have your oath the same day. Why would you want to reschedule your interview?

We were talking about Regional Passport Agency. There are couple of them all over US. If you need to fly outside US and need your passport within 2 weeks, you have to apply at Regional Passport Agency.

I got mine in a week but I had to use a travel agent. From what I have heard only Regional Passport Agency at Chicago can offer same day passports.

BTW - You need to have confirmed tickets to use Regional Passport Agency. You have to send the copy of tickets or travel plans along with your docs.
