After immigrating

HI,
After receiving the Immigration Visa and Enter the Untied States. What are the rule and regulations about the stipulate time that a person has to stay in the United States before leaving the country?

The reason i ask is my dad is currently working in Saudi Arabia, and he would like to continue his job, after completing the immigration procedures. He would only get a months vacation time to complete the formalities before he would have to restart his job. Would that be possible?

I've heard mixed opinion on the subject, ranging from yes you can leave the country right after the procedure, as well as no you cannot leave the country until you receive your green card after four years.

Please advise,

Thanks

He can leave the US the next day after entering with the immigrant visa. There is no limitation on how soon he can leave. The limitation is on how much time he can stay outside after he leaves. One year outside (without a reentry permit) would invalidate the green card. 6 consecutive months outside is likely to result in a warning or hassles at the port of entry when returning. A general pattern of staying outside the US for more than a total of about 10-11 months a year, repeatedly over multiple years, can result in a warning or confiscation of the green card, even if each individual trip is under 6 months.

How long does he plan to keep working in Saudi Arabia?

Continuing to work abroad can be taken as abandonment of his GC. He is expected to live and work in the US since he will be a permanent resident.

You should not have applied for him if he is unwilling to comply with the requirements placed on a LPR.

He should consult an attorney.

Why did you apply for him if he was obviously not ready to move and not willing to stay for good?
