After the Finger Printing is done, what steps are there before the I-485 is approved and one can have the passport stamped.

Also, How long between Finger Printing and I-485 being approved.

You now just have to wait for your approval. Sometimes, the SC will send out an RFE ("Request for Evidence"), which you (or your attorney) must respond to in a timely manner. RFE\'s usually ask for Employment Verification and Profferment of Employment once the 485 is approved, new biographic forms, etc..

Sometimes, your case may be sent to the local office for fdurther processing and your only "fault" may be that you fall in the 2% of cases that INS randomly selects for audits.

PS: What I would do is call the FBI number about three weeks after you gave your fingerprints to check that they had "sent" your prints to INS.
