After EAD until GC, what happens?

I applied for I140 and 485 in the last week of December. Earlier this year, I was fingerprinted, and yesterday, I recieved the EAD.
I am trying to learn USCIS rules that govern my status between now and I receive the GC.
How long before I can switch employers? I heard somewhere that I need to stay with current employer for 180 days after applying for I140. Is it true?

What happens if my employers lays me off in the meantime? Does my status become invalid?
Also, my employer has indicated that I am now on EAD and not on H1. How does that affect?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Ideally you should not use AC21 until your I-140 is approved and 180 days have passed since your I-485 has been pending. There are lots of horror incidents that you can read on this forum to understand the impact and cause.

----- your employer dont want to extend H1 becase he has to pay the fees for H1 extension, one can have EAD and at the same time can be on H1 status. ask your employer does he gives you gurantee that I-140 will be approved??? ifI-140 gets denied then EAD AP,I-485 all will get denied and you will have no status. request him to file H1 extension. if you have validH1 and employer is saying use EAD then inform him that you want to be on H1 status tillI-140 is not approved becase use of EAD will invalidateH1 status

--your I-140 is not approved and yourI-485 is not pending more than 180 days, at this time you are not eligible to use AC21, stick with the employer till yourI-140 gets approved and then think about changing employer

----- your status is AOS pending after filing I-485
